Join Dr. Mark “Merriwether” Vorderbruggen of Merriwether's Foraging Texas has he roams the land of Vista Brewing , revealing the wild foods and medicines growing there. We’re offering two Plant Walk sessions per day (each session is a unique ticket):
-11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
-2:30 – 4:30 PM

Tickets are $25 (plus tax & online ticketing fees), and only 20 spots are available in each class.

Spend time outside on Vista's 21 acres rediscovering what your ancestors knew: that there’s food everywhere, not just on store shelves and farmer’s markets . This adventure will use all of your senses and involves experiencing these useful plants in their normal, wild settings so that you’ll be able to properly identify (and eat!) them on your own later on.

Come early or stay late for a few beers (or wine/cider) and a meal from Vista’s hyper-local restaurant sourcing from it's own onsite farm.

Merriwether will also detail the numerous ways he incorporates the plants into his family’s day-to-day diet and medicine chest. The cool thing about Texas is the summer weeds of up north are winter weeds down here so there’ll be plenty to see. Come and release your inner caveman, foodie, survivalist, or hippie!

Please dress appropriately for the weather, including long pants and sturdy walking shoes. This is a rain or shine event. If unsafe weather such as ice storms or heavy rains interfere with the class, a 75% refund will be given if Merriwether makes it to Vista Brewing. A 100% refund will be given if the weather prevents Merriwether from reaching the location.

Live Music: Beni Brosh

Live Music: Beni Brosh

February 23, 2020, 3:00pm - February 23, 2020, 5:30pm

Vista Brewing13551 FM 150Driftwood, TX78619 Map

Join us Sunday, February 23rd for an afternoon of live music under the oaks with Beni Brosh!!

Born in West Orange, New Jersey, fourteen miles outside of New York City, the world and all it's inhabitants appeared to be a mere skyline away. Music and art of all genres and varieties flowed over the Hudson into the rose colored ears of a rose speckle-faced kid listening to Strawberry Fields forever. Although the idea of getting a "real job" in Manhattan was the proposed purposeful life his parents, teachers, and all other adults forced into the conversation of growing up, from a young age Ben knew that was not the life that would bring him purpose or joy.

Though music was integral to his childhood, teenage years and early adulthood, it wasn't until after graduating college and getting that proposed puposeful job in Manhattan that Beni realized that he had been living someone else's life. In 2013 Beni helped found the folk-rock trio, The Coteries, and quickly realized that writing and performing music was what he wanted to do. The band managed to play in 46 states over four years and shared the stage with artists like Sierra Hull, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes, The War and Treaty, and The Black Lillies.

"I never planned on being a musician. All I knew when I was growing up was that I couldn't work in a cubicle or live in a box... still I somehow wound up living in a Brooklyn apartment sized van," he jokes.

In 2017, Beni left the band to pursue his solo career. He settled in the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Fort Collins, CO and began writing the songs that had been brewing in his head over the years of living on the road. In starting this new chapter of his career, he released his first solo EP, Hole Hearted, in May 2019.

Since the release of Hole Hearted, Beni has gotten back on the road and has toured the album through-out all of Colorado and the Pacific Northwest. In 2020 he looks forward to continuing his musical exploration of the country and songwriting.

The band is led by Jomo Edwards, who’s award-wining lyrics tend to skate the line between the sardonic and the arcane… and over the past decade, JPP has established itself as one of the most talented, fresh and cerebrally entertaining live acts around.

In 2019, the band was selected “Best of Fest” at FronteraFest for the second year in a row at the long-running Austin Fringe Festival. The band’s programs highlight their brand of original music and comedy.

Vista Brewing13551 FM 150Driftwood, TX78619 Map

Join us Sunday, May 17th for an afternoon of live music under the oaks with Jan Flemming's Organ Trio!!

Jan Flemming is an accordion and keyboard player from Cologne, Germany, now based in Austin, Texas.

He began playing the accordion at the age of seven and was immediately fascinated by the variety of the instrument. At age eleven, he joined a cultural project to keep the traditional music of Cologne alive and was exposed to a broad spectrum of musical genres. He played in several bands and projects taught and coached by his mentor Nick Nikitakis. During which, he found his musical orientation playing Blues, Jazz, Country and World Music. Jan played across Europe and appeared on national television. His natural talent combined with prudent work ethic evolved into what would become Jan’s calling in life. At just fourteen years of age, he knew his passion was also his career path. The decision to move to Austin,Texas came in 2012 after visiting the city and experiencing the love for live music that helps define the culture there. Shortly after the move, Jan obtained a degree in Jazz Performance and Composition. With formal training completed, he concentrated his efforts on connecting with the local talent which garnered him lead positions in several bands. It was not long before he was able to establish a reputation in the music scene as a skilled and sought after accordion and keyboard player. The city recognized his contribution by voting him first place in the Category Best Miscellaneous Instrument for accordion at the 2016 Austin Music Awards.

He is a permanent band member of several bands, including Ulrich Ellison & Tribe with whom he won the 2015 Austin Music Awards for Best Blues Band. Other notable bands he is in are: Nakia and The Blues Grifters, Grupo Massa, Seu Jacinto, The Gritones, and Macaxeira Funk.

Jan proves that the accordion is an instrument that finds its home in many genres, from Blues, Zydeco, Jazz, Funk, Americana, and Rock to Brazilian, Greek, and World music. His passion is exploring these music cultures with his instrument and bringing this to audiences that probably have not experienced the accordion like this before.
