Texas Historical Marker Dedication

Join The Driftwood Historical Conservation Society (DHCS), Hays County Historical Commission, and Vista Brewing as we unveil the official William B. Travis League Historical Marker.

On Saturday, August 26th at 12:30pm, the new marker, several years in the making, will be dedicated! Hear from DHCS leaders and toast with a complimentary sample of the honorary Vista beer, aptly named Travis.

The DHCS will also announce the 2024 date for the 3rd Annual Driftwood Heritage Festival, a family-friendly celebration of our history and local agri-hood community.

Vista Brewing is open for lunch starting at 12:00 p.m. with a full menu of farm-to-table food, craft beer, wine, cider and non-alcoholic beverages.

This historical marker recognizes the boundaries of the 4,000-acre league of land that was granted to William Barret Travis in 1835. Travis, a lieutenant colonel in the Texas Army, was heavily involved in the Texas Revolution, perishing at the Battle of the Alamo. A number of settlers of the William B. Travis League developed the area and contributed to its settlement, establishing businesses, schools, and cemeteries.

This marker was the result of collaboration between the Driftwood Historical Conservation Society and the Hays County Historical Commission, with the generous sponsorship of Vista Brewing, which is centered in the William B. Travis League.

The Texas Historical Commission (THC) creates historical markers to commemorate diverse topics in Texas history including: the history and architecture of houses, commercial and public buildings, religious congregations, and military sites; events that changed the course of local and state history; and individuals who have made lasting contributions to our state, community organizations, and businesses.

Historical markers can be found in all 254 Texas counties. Age, significance, and architectural requirements govern the eligibility of topics and sites when applying for either a subject marker, Historic Texas Cemetery marker, or a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark marker.
