Arbor Day Celebration

Come celebrate Arbor Day with Vista Brewing Friday, April 28 from 5 to 7PM. There will be a Tree Planting Ceremony & Free Sapling Giveaway!

Here at Vista, trees are an important part of our story.  When we began designing Vista, there were 681 large trees on our 21 acres.  Throughout design and construction, we were very careful to preserve as many as possible.  We designed the buildings right into the trees, even reshaping rooflines and building a deck right around to accommodate.

With all of the buildings and roads we built, we only cut down 14 trees!  Now we’ve lost a handful of trees over our 5 years, including one beautiful, large Red Oak.  Our friend and longtime Vista regular, Andrew, actually saved acorns from this tree and has grown up three saplings!  During this special Arbor Day ceremony, we will plant these three in honor of our lost Red Oak, with plans for future shade in the Beer Garden.  Andrew is a qualified arborist who has worked at the Lady Bird Wildflower Center so, come prepared with any questions on Texas tree care!

The first Arbor Day was way back in 1872, and it is rumored that they planted ONE MILLION trees that day in Nebraska.  Whoa.  If that was possible, then it must be possible for each of us to plant a few each year, right?   More trees mean more shade (a must here in Texas), offsetting carbon, creating habitats for wildlife, and growing something good to eat.  (Pro tip: figs, pecans, peaches, plums and pomegranates all do well in Texas!)
