Honey Harvest Festival

Join us at the Vista ranch on Saturday, July 22 for a celebration of all things HONEY, presented by the Hays County Beekeepers Association and Vista Brewing.

This is a free, family friendly, community event and also helps to raise money for the Hays County Beekeepers Association’s (HCBA) Youth Scholarship & Mentoring Program. This is a multi-year progressive program which teaches youth ages 10-18 about natural and sustainable beekeeping.

From 12 to 4 pm, you can enjoy:

  • Honeybee education, including an observation hive, a frame of live and active honeybees in a fully enclosed box with a viewing window

  • Honey tastings from apiaries around Hays County - taste the natural variance in honeys based on what bees have foraged

  • Live demonstrations of extracting & spinning honey

  • Honey food specials from the Vista Grill

  • Kids’ activities including a scavenger hunt, coloring sheets, color a bee box

  • Hosted walk to the Vista apiary

  • Demonstration of how to render pure beeswax using a solar melter

  • Samples of Hive Mind Honey Ale, the third iteration of Vista's award-winning collaboration with local beekeepers and made with wild yeast swabbed from a Vista honeybee

  • The release of the 2023 harvest from Vista's onsite apiary, all natural comb honey and raw honey

Vista Brewing is a 21-acre ranch in the Hill Country town of Driftwood, just 25 minutes southwest of Austin. Vista has a 16-hive apiary on site, which helps in pollination of our onsite vegetable farm. Vista also intentionally planted 7+ acres of wildflowers to support our honeybees.

We are fortunate to work with these local partners:

  • Our friends from the Hays County Beekeepers Association will be onsite if you’re interested in learning how to get started beekeeping. HCBA's mission is to encourage an educated and intelligent nature-centric management of honey bee colonies with the end goal of a chemical-free and sustainable approach to beekeeping and honey making.

  • Sister Creek Hives, a local education and apiary management company whose goal is to promote honey bee health, raise awareness of native pollinators and pollinator habitat and support backyard beekeeping.

  • Community Cultures Yeast Lab, our partners who swabbed a Vista honeybee and propagated the wild saccharomyces brewer's yeast for Hive Mind.
